Carpeway Gathering 1, Thursday 6th June 2019

Where do I even start to tell you about the amazing day 11 of us had on our first Carpeway
get together?

We gathered around on a sunny car park in Great Ayton. When one of the guys turned up wearing
a t-shirt that said “oeuf” on it (egg in French), I knew it was going to be a good day! I hope I did not scare the others though by offering to take a register before we set off… in French too! Once a teacher…

What ensued was unpredictable but amazing: I personally only knew Ian and had briefly met another guy before, but by the end of the day I felt I knew quite a lot about every single person there, even those I did not get round to talking to properly. I could not even tell you who knew whom before we started, because people seemed to mix so easily.

Lunch time with a business challenge discussion

So what did we do? We walked, chatted, got out of breath, walked some more, chatted some more, met a lady and her dog, walked, talked… You get the idea! I personally took part in discussions about past experiences, the housing market, future plans, common acquaintances, current issues within our businesses, watches, families, fitness, mental health. We did occasionally stop for a break, but the chatting kept going on. Over lunch (at a picnic table, what else?), two of us got given the chance to share with everyone a current challenge they are facing within their businesses. It was amazing to watch the connections people had (which they did not know they had) and the ideas they could come up with!

Will I go back? Of course I will! What will I do differently? I attempt to speak to everyone personally and will listen more.

Thanks for reading!

PS If Ian ever tells you he is taking you for a gentle walk that does not require you to be fit... I recommend you check the walk out yourself first!

We captured some audio for the Industry Angel Business Podcast too!
